Down to Earth @Färgfabriken

On Friday 17th June 2022, AES Studio’s Anna Sundman and Emily Aquilina hosted the international Conference ‘Down to Earth’ at Färgfabriken in Stockholm, Sweden. The event focused on the current practice and future possibilities for sustainability in the architectural and construction industries. Gaining insights into the practical knowledge, built work and natural/circular material innovations of BIØN, the Building Impact Zero Network, produced over a six-year European funded project.

The day was spent discussing the different prototypes, material expertise, built outcomes and scientific research being developed in biological- and low-impact building materials and techniques.

We also heard from three Stockholm based innovators; Helena Westerlind, Emma Östlund and Bettina Schwalm who presented their research, innovations or future possibilities.

The day was moderated by Secretary’s incredibly talented and eloquent Helen Runting, who facilitated each discussion with insightful and thought provoking questions. A huge thank you to Helen for drawing lines, connecting dots and asking the ‘hard’ and juicy questions. And of course to our BIØN speakers and contributors, a warm thank you to:
