Learning by building meets academia and professionals at international architecture seminar

Alessio Battistella presenting LearnBIØN at the International Architecture Seminar in Camerino, Italy

From July 31st to August 4th, the Italian town of Camerino hosted the 32nd edition of the International Seminar and Award in Architecture and Urban Culture. This year the participants reflected on “the city of desires – architectural dreams and drawings”. Among them, our partner Alessio Battistella from ARCò, who is also a professor at the Polytechnic University of Milan, had the opportunity to present the experience gathered during six years of activities made through LearnBIØN, our practical training program.

Alessio's contribution suited perfectly with the event's goal of make the academic world meet with the professionals that are active on the territory. Learning by building as practised during the 11 BIØN workshops in Portugal, Spain, Italy and Sweden has been appreciated as a best practice to bring students and research staff closer to built reality and open the door for new approaches in designing and building to be integrated in professional practice.

The participated feedback from university members as well as from representatives of the local architecture chambers and the National Council of Architects gives us a good energy to go ahead with the experience of internationally shared initiatives of adult learning for sustainable architecture and community building.
