Completing the framework and more design development

The 2nd week started with a lecture by Cordwood DIY builder Olle Hagman, taking us through the history of cordwood building, the development of the technique and how it’s being used today. Olle also joined us on site with some valuable advice.

The team now focused heavily on completing the wooden framework, both the floor beams and the roof structure. By removing more wood from the pallets we managed to reuse a lot of wood for the whole construction. We also drew some conclusions from the clay tests from previous week. We will mix the mortar using 1 part clay, 3 parts sand and 1 part straw.

We also developed the design further, designing the facades using the existing windows and pattern making in the cordwood.
