Works completed in San Ginesio

After telling you how the work was initiated during the Workshop BIØN² #2 Design & Build for Disassembly, here some updates on the results the team achieved during the initiative’s last week.

One of the working days has been dedicated to a field trip to Ascoli Piceno where the participants visited the school of Architecture and Design “E. Vittoria” of the University of Camerino (Unicam). There they had the opportunity to see the laboratory #Prototype, led by Davide Paciotti, and namely its laser-cutter, in action. The opportunity was caught to produce a wooden table to be added to the stage. A short sightseeing tour of the medieval city completed the trip.

The working steps on site included the final details of the floor and the assembly of a wooden bench composed of five large logs, previously used to secure a building in the area following the earthquake. The anchoring of these elements took a whole day, resulting in a long bench with only two supports, consisting of wooden cubes, also recovered from a construction site in the area.

After testing it with the whole team sitting on it, the bench has been impregnated just in time to dry for the inauguration ceremony. The group then divided into two teams, one with the task of solving the last details of the stage, while the other built a table and a bench with two boards of x-lam in the corner of the garden.

Along with the construction work, the participants had the opportunity to attend theoretical sessions and round tables. ARCò’s Valerio Marazzi held a lesson on the alchemy of raw earth and the different construction techniques, whilst Roberto dell'Orso, a local photographer, spoke about the composition of images in his work.

One afternoon was dedicated to an open meeting where the municipality of San Ginesio hosted ARCò’s chairman Alessio Battistella, the general secretary of Symbola Fabio Renzi and the Extraordinary Commissioner for the Earthquake Reconstruction of the Italian Government Giovanni Legnini to discuss difficulties and opportunities of the reconstruction process in San Ginesio and other localities in central Italy.

The closing day brought the opportunity for the local community to reenter the garden of San Tommaso after a very long time after attending the workshop’s final presentation in the beautiful location of the Auditorium Sant’Agostino. During the presentation, that was organized by the Municipality and the association G-Lab, together with ARCò, different public figures took word, San Ginesio’s mayor Giuliano Ciabocco and Professor Maria Federica Ottone, the director of the Master in  Circular Architecture, among them. ARCò’s chairman Alessio Battistella gave a short presentation of the project. The final greetings were made by the prior Giovanni Petrelli and the vice president of G-Lab, Giacomo Taccari.

The whole group took a walk through the village and reached the garden of the church of San Tommaso, where the citizens had the opportunity to appreciate the quality of the space. It was a very important moment for the team, who could see the furniture being used for the first time and later celebrated with a dinner at the municipal hostel with the whole community.
